The Black Seeds - The Black Seeds EP
Berlin DJ DANIEL W. BEST, who with his booking agency Best Works is a long running companion to JAZZANOVA and Sonar Kollekiv, has an impeccable musical intuition and knack for spotting talent. For a while now his label Best Seven has concerned itself with the interface between soul and reggae. With early releases, which became underground hits like „Midnight Marauders“ by JOE DUKIE and DJ FITCHIE (behind which is none other than DALLAS TAMAIRA and CHRIS FAIMUMU - singer and producer of New Zealand reggae superstars FAT FREDDY’S DROP), BEST has made his contribution to the worldwide popularity of the New Zealand collective. Now BEST is also ready to introduce THE BLACK SEEDS to a wider European audience. THE BLACK SEEDS are already superstars in their own country on the other side of the planet. The 8 piece band who have been active for about 10 years have gold and double platinum status at home. Finally with the release of their third album „Into The Dojo“, it’s time introduce THE BLACK SEEDS via Best Seven and Sonar Kollektiv to people here too. THE BLACK SEEDS EP is an excerpt from „Into The Dojo“, and with four carefully selected tracks from said album is a definite listening pleasure. Cool me down is gloriously soulful reggae with engaging lyrics and a catchy groove. This is the perfect thing to cool you down on a hot summers day. While on the dub version they have lavishly applied delays to the production giving it a true roots feel. Deeply melancholy songs like „The Answer“ and sound scape dub instrumentals „The Prince“, which shares its title with song by Two-tone legends Madness, present the perfect calling card for the band who have an incredibly coherent and ripe style which makes them a name well worth remembering.![]()
